The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the United States on five Europeans working on combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’
Officials from Europe including the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans targeted figures that were at the heart of campaigns to introduce laws regulating US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure American platforms to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state online. “This government will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
