Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
